Meet Black Creek K-9

Adam Black, Owner

As Owner of Black Creek K-9 Services, allow me to introduce myself and where I come from. Most of my relatives are retired Air Force Officers serving as either Doctors or Pilots, including my dad who served 22 years as a Pilot flying C-141’s for the majority of his career. At the age of 19 I strayed from the family tree and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Because of my love for animals and history of training cow dogs, I chose the profession to become a Military Police K-9 Handler.

Upon successfully completing the Military Working Dog Handler Course located at Lackland Air Force Base, I was awarded "Distinguished Graduate” in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, as well as the "Top Dog Award” for Block 1 and "Meritorious Mast” for outstanding performance of duty. In June 2001 my first assignment took me to (MCBH) Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe where I served my enlistment. On September 11th 2001, the lives of every Patriotic American, including those who were currently serving in the military, were forever changed. During that time I was a handler and soon became a chief trainer for one of the largest Kennels in the Marine Corps, handling both drug and explosive dogs. Among others, my various missions included a deployment to Africa and assisting the Secret Service in conducting explosive sweeps during President Bush’s visit to Hawaii in 2003.  I competed for "Marine of the Quarter” and was Meritoriously promoted to Corporal and subsequently awarded "Marine of the Year” for 2002. While training and handling Military Working Dogs I achieved the rank of Sergeant (E-5).

After completing my service in the Marine Corps in July 2004, I headed home to Colorado accompanied by my retired MWD Amber.  Being a new practice for the Marine Corps, handlers were afforded the opportunity to adopt retiring Military Working Dogs. Amber, a Dual Purpose Narcotic MWD was retired and adopted at the age of 10 and lived an additional 5 years as my faithful companion. Amber accompanied me in the move to the great State of Texas in 2008 where I continued to work with dogs, volunteering to train local police department K-9 handlers, as well as civilians. My passion for working dogs stayed strong, eventually leading me to form the company Black Creek K-9 Services with a friend and fellow K-9 trainer Jay-T Manoushagian. Our collaboration focused on providing a specific service for using canines to detect narcotics, weapons, and explosives for the private sector. Since the establishment of the company in 2013, we've been doing just that.

Back in May 2011, I married my soul mate, Shannon and we currently reside in Boyd, Texas with our daughter Breelyn. Our other immediate family includes horses, dogs, cats, a pig, and a rabbit. Shannon is an avid barrel racer while I rope calves and compete when time allows. Following another dream of mine, I obtained my Private Pilot license in 2015 and enjoy flying. We attend Grace Fellowship Church in Paradise and welcome the opportunity to gather with friends and family.
